Connecting the App

To set up automatic replies to Instagram comments, the first step is to connect your Instagram account. Go to the “My apps” tab, find “Instagram (DMs Auto-reply)” in the list, and click Select

Then find Instagram (DMs Auto-reply) in the connected apps list and click Connect. In the pop-up window, click Connect again.

! Important: your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account in order to connect.

Next, you’ll be redirected to the official Instagram website. Click Allow to authorize and connect your account.

! Important: You are not sharing your Instagram login or password with us. This process uses Instagram’s official API, and is completely safe and secure for your account. As you can see in the screenshot, you’re providing access through the official Instagram page, not by sharing your login details.

Creating a Way

Once your Instagram account is connected, click on Create a Way to start setting up the automation.

In the Trigger field, select Instagram (DMs Auto-reply). Now choose when the automation should run:

  • When someone comments on a specific post or reel

  • When someone sends a DM with a specific keyword

  • When someone comments on any post or reel

When someone comments on a specific post or reel

Let’s walk through the option where someone comments on a specific post or reel.

Enter the keyword that must be included in the comment to trigger the automation. Keywords are not case-sensitive — for example, "dress", "DRESS", and "Dress" will all be treated the same.

Then, select the specific post or reel you want to monitor for those comments.

In the Action section, select Instagram (DMs Auto-reply). Next, choose what should happen once the trigger condition is met.

Send direct messages (DMs)

Let’s choose to send a direct message (DMs) as the action. Select Send direct messages (DMs).

Click Update available fields.

Now, create the message users will receive after commenting with the keyword. You can also add an image and a clickable button with a link.

When you're done, turn on the automation by clicking the ON switch in the top right corner.

Reply to a comment

This will be a separate automation (Way) from the one that sends a DM. For example, earlier we set up an automation that sends a direct message — now let’s create an additional one that posts a comment reply, prompting the user to check their inbox.

In the right panel, choose Reply to a comment as the action.

Click Update available fields.

Fill in the Reply to a comment field with your response.

Activate the automation by clicking the ON switch in the top right corner.

When someone DMs you a specific keyword

Let’s explore how to automate replies to direct messages. This will be a separate automation (Way). Previously, we set up an automation that sends a DM in response to a comment. Now we’ll set it up to trigger when someone sends a DM containing a specific keyword — for example, replying to a story or sending a message directly.

In the left panel, select the trigger When someone DMs you a specific keyword.

Enter the keyword that should trigger the automation.

In the right panel, choose the action Send direct messages (DMs) and click Update available fields.

Create your message. Just like before, you can add an image and a clickable button with a link.

Finally, activate the automation by clicking the ON switch in the top right corner.

Editing or Stopping the Automation

If you need to make changes to an automation after it’s been activated, first toggle the switch to OFF.

Once you’ve made your changes, switch it back ON to activate the updated version.
